Celebrate Global Volunteer Month With Big Brothers Big Sisters

Celebrate Global Volunteer Month With Big Brothers Big Sisters

Each year, the month of April is recognized as Global Volunteer Month and is used to celebrate volunteers, call attention to the importance of community service, and encourage people to volunteer. The 20th to 26th of April is also National Volunteer Week in the U.S., placing even more emphasis on volunteering and continuing community outreach.

Big Brothers Big Sisters offers volunteer opportunities near you through mentorship and other activities and this April we invite you to sign up in honor of Global Volunteer Month.

Community Engagement Through Volunteering

Volunteering for a cause or program you believe in and want to see flourish is a great way to become more involved in your community. By becoming a volunteer, you can meet and get to know people outside of your regular circle and uplift those who may be struggling. Volunteerism connects you within your community, offering the opportunity to find a mentor or become one yourself.

Big or small, each volunteer makes an impact with their service whether it's more meals served or a young person having someone to look up to.

Volunteering Near You

Big Brothers Big Sisters offers volunteer opportunities near you mainly through our mentorship program where we pair at-risk youth with volunteer mentors to form a Big and Little relationship. Through these relationships, the Littles are able to have a stable, positive influence on their lives. With consistent hangouts, the bond between Big and Little becomes a safe space for young people who may not have one otherwise. Our volunteer mentors help guide their Littles and encourage them to work hard and achieve their goals. This youth empowerment is fostered by volunteer work, showing the importance of volunteering and participating in your community and how wide the impact can be.

Sign up to become a mentor today or sign up a young person to be mentored through our program today.

Leave A Lasting Impact With Community Service

Throughout history, we’ve seen the impact that community service and volunteerism has made. From former presidents volunteering to build and renovate homes for those in need to local volunteer coaches for a soccer league, people everywhere are engaging with others in and outside of their community to improve people’s quality of life.

This Global Volunteer Month, we urge you to thank a volunteer and make time to volunteer somewhere for a cause you feel passionate about. If you’re looking for volunteer-based mentoring programs near you, look no further than Big Brothers Big Sisters.
