Marisol has previously been matched with 5th graders but all the matches have ended once the Littles move to 6th grade. This year she was matched with Little Brother Cade who is in 4th grade. Since last year, Cade’s classroom behavior has improved tremendously. Thank you Marisol for your hard work and consistency as a Big Sister.
Stephani Dobberstein has been matched with her Teen Sister Kathy since August 2013 in the DREAMR Program. Some matches don’t hit it off right away which happened to be the case for Stephani and Kathy. However, with Stephanie's commitment her persistence paid off. Only being a part of the DREAMR Program for a short time, there is significant changes to Kathy’s social skills.
The first day of school is so important. Unfortunately, many families are unable to afford the costs associated with returning to school. Thanks to generous donations from Soles4Souls, Rastaclat, and FN Platform, 300 young people, ages 6 – 18, started the school year with a new pair of shoes, bracelets, a backpack and school supplies.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada and Silverton Casino are excited to launch their new partnership for the Win Big, Give a Little. Drop boxes will be available throughout the Silverton for players to donate their remaining cashout voucher.
We have come to respect and admire Leora’s strong commitment to her mentee. She eagerly and regularly attends our DREAMR coaching sessions and brings her Sister to many of our teen match events. Thank you, Leora, for volunteering to be a mentor for a youth in foster care.
BBBSN provided mentor training to individuals and groups that were interested in becoming mentors through the Department of Juvenile Justice’s Diversion Court program. All attendees participated in a four hour training to learn best practices in mentoring.
