This year we hosted our Second Annual STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Summer Institute for our Littles entering 6th through 8th grade. Through this eight week program, Littles are introduced to a variety of STEM related activities in a day camp style environment.
Lori and Mikela have been matched since June 2011. Mikela is able to confide in Lori with everything that is going on in her life. Lori is very committed to her Little Sister and is genuinely concerned with her ongoing well being. Thank you Lori for being a great Big Sister and congratulations as our August Big Sister of the Month!
Kyndra has been an amazing Big Sister and support for Little Sister Hailey. When Hailey began to experience personal hardships at home and school, Hailey’s mom says Kyndra has been very consistent and a constant motivator that has kept Hailey’s spirits high. Crystalia Yfantis is a great Big Sister and is our July 2015 Big of the Month. When Chaniah and her family moved across town, Crystalia stayed dedicated to their relationship. Crystalia is a Big that goes the extra mile and for that we would like to thank her. Congratulations to Crystalia as our Big Sister of the Month!
BBBSN has over 550 boysthat are waiting for men to step up to the plate and become Big Brothers. This is where Men in Mentoring comes into play. BBBSN and community partners, have joined forces to highlight guy-centric athletic and cultural events that will ultimately focus on male volunteer recruitment efforts.
One word sums up the Zappos experience: WOW! During the winter of 2014, Zappos met with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada to develop a way to deliver WOW to an entirely new audience; the students of Hollingsworth Elementary School. Thanks to Zappos’ donation of $30,000, the program grew from serving six students to almost 30 students in one year.
