Generous Community Leaders Start Something and Give Bikes to Kids at Event
Supporters of Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programs will celebrate the holidays by presenting new bicycles to children facing adversity at an event on Saturday, December 3rd at noon. Sixty Littles, accompanied by their Bigs, will receive bikes at the Holiday Bike Bonanza held at the Element Hotel at 10555 Discovery Lane in Las Vegas. Sponsors include Credit One Bank, Element by Westin, NV Energy and Nevada State Bank.
“This event allows our generous supporters to meet some of the Littles in our program and brighten their holiday season with new bicycles,” said Gerry Shear, Board Chair at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada (BBBSN). “BBBSN programs rely on donations. We thank Element by Westin for the generous donation of this event. The generosity of our funders will support our mentoring program for hundreds of children throughout the year. Additional support from the community is always welcome so we can serve more kids in the area.
Partnering with parents/guardians, schools, corporations and others in the community since 1973, Big Brothers Big Sisters carefully matches children (“Littles”) with screened volunteer mentors (“Bigs”) and monitors and supports them in one-to-one mentoring matches throughout their course. The organization holds itself accountable for children in the program to achieve measureable outcomes, such as higher aspirations; greater confidence and better relationships; educational success; and avoidance of delinquency and other risky behaviors.
