Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada helps children reach their potential through professionally supported one-to-one relationships.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada, founded in 1973, matches children with adult and older teen role models.

The program is affiliated with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and is one of more than 500 agencies that have mentored children for over 100 years.

Programs

Community-Based Mentoring
Community-Based Mentoring involves sharing activities with your Little Brother or Sister anywhere in the community. Mentors must be 18 or older.

 
School/Site-Based Mentoring
In Site-Based Mentoring matches meet on the campus of the child’s school or other community location during the school day. Together, they work on homework, play games in the gym, run around on the playground, hang out in the library, or take advantage of any other activities that the school might offer. In this program, matches meet for one hour a week, every week, for at least one school year. Mentors must be at least a Freshman in high school.

Studies show that matched Little Brothers and Little Sisters are:

  • 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs

  • 27% less likely to begin using alcohol

  • 52% less likely to skip school

  • 37% less likely to skip a class

  • more confident of their school work performance

  • 1/3 less likely to hit someone and

  • getting along better with their families

Staff

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada has professionally-trained staff to help ensure the success of each match. From Customer Service Specialist to Enrollment Specialist to Match Support Specialist, Big Brothers Big Sisters is there for both the youth and their mentors.
